iOS and Android app
MoveCoin
An idea of my own, to be taken to two stores with different rules on a one-person budget.
How it ended
Two stores, one backend, monthly costs below the background noise.
Built with
- Android
- iOS
- Custom backend
- Apple and Google stores
Why I tell you about a project of my own
Because it is the one case where I can tell you everything: what it cost, what I got wrong, what I would do again. I conceived, built and published MoveCoin myself, on both stores.
What I learned, and use with clients
Publishing on two stores is a job of its own. Apple and Google reviews do not look at the same things and do not arrive at the same time. Anyone who puts "iOS and Android app" on one line of a quote is hiding weeks of work.
The backend decides the monthly cost, not the app. You download the app once; you pay for the server every month. Designing it to be cheap at rest is an architectural choice made up front, not after the first bill.
Store rules change the revenue model. What you may sell inside the app, through which payment system and at what commission: those are commercial constraints arriving from the technical world, and exactly the kind of thing that sits on page one of a feasibility audit.
How it ended
[NUMERO] downloads in the first twelve months, with infrastructure costs below the price of a subscription. It is the project I use as a yardstick whenever someone asks what "a simple app" costs.
